British Firework Championships (JULY 05)

Le Maitre competed in the British Firework Championships on the 16th of August.
Le Maitre's display, designed by Head Pyrotechnician Mark Thomas, came a close second in the competition, missing first place by only 0.8 of a point.

The British Firework Championships were held in Plymouth, where the fireworks were fired from the breakwater which extends out into the sea. Each display was exactly 10 minutes long, and there were 6 competitors.

Le Maitre were drawn to fire their display on the first day of the competition, just after Alan Hilary Pyrotechnics who were last year's champions.

A crew of 6 technicians worked all the way through from 7.30am to 8:30pm in the blistering sunshine to set up the 10 minute display. Mark Thomas designed the show months before the event and a crew of 4 spent 3 days fusing and numbering all of the fireworks a week in advance. The fireworks were fired using the pyrodigital firing system which uses special pyrotechnic choreography software.

Each show had to start with 3 maroons and close with 3 maroons. Mark decide to use 5” Titanium Salutes which certainly got everyone’s attention. The show featured some spectacular chase sequences and an ear bursting finale. For the first time in the history of the competition, the public were allowed to have their say. A SMS Text voting system was used to award points in the audience appreciation category.
