Father Christmas comes to Harrods (NOV 04)

Harrods Christmas Parade took place on November 6th and this was its 19th year. The parade is for the arrival of Father Christmas at the London department store, and marks the beginning of the festive season.

Le Maitre were asked to supply the special effects, and this also involved Le Maitre staff dressing up as some of the fairytale characters, in order to pass unnoticed in the parade. Le Maitre's Mark Thomas dressed as the Wicked Witch and fired a range of pyrotechnics from a giant cauldron on top of one of the floats. It had been specially fitted with the Pyrodigital system and 32 pieces of pyro to be fired throughout the parade. The pyro effects used were colored Smokes, 1x25 and 10x12 Stage Gerbs, the new 25ft Comets, Gold Crackle Comets and 20ft Crackle Variegated Mines. All of the effects were fired from the cauldron via a footswitch on the float.

The event attracted thousands of people who lined the streets from 8am. The parade left Bowater House at 8.30am and travelled past the front of the store and around to the back where the chairman was waiting to welcome Father Christmas.
